Bass 10

Schatten Bass-10 Series Pickups

For Acoustic Upright Basses

Remember that the Bass-10 was designed to be used with a preamp. You must have one (endpin jack preamp or extern Preamp-/DI-Box) for it to operate properly.

Here is a new bass pickup that is certainly different from the rest: The new Schatten Bass-10. Designed to accurately bring out the sound of your bass, it installs quickly and easily to your favorite instrument. Twin piezo elements working on two different planes contact four moving surfaces which all sample vibration from your bass at the same time.Bass-10

As can be seen in the photo above, there are two piezo sensor elements in the pickup system. One is placed over the bass side wing slot while the second piezo element is placed on the inside of the bass leg. An adjustable post is fitted between that element and the opposite bridge foot. The adjustable post helps to drive this second element and makes this entire pickup system unique in its design concept and performance.

The sound of this pickup is full and clear with no false fattening of the tone of the instrument. The Bass-10 will give you the sound of your bass, only louder. It is dynamically accurate with no false colorization built in.bass-10

The Bass-10 was designed for use with a preamp but we have made it available in both active and passive formats. With the active version, the preamp and battery unit simply attaches to the back of the tailpiece with some really strong self-adhesive velcro. Total weight of the preamp/battery unit (with battery) is a lightweight 3 1/2 ounces.

With the passive version, a rosewood bodied jack assembly is provided that simply clamps between the strings (just above the tailpiece). We provide the pickup in passive format for those players that already have a quality outboard preamp and wish to continue to use it.

The entire pickup system may be installed 'permanently' or it may be taken on and off as many times as you may wish. For temporary installations, the piezo sensing units attach to the bridge surfaces with a little bit of non-marring putty. For more 'permanent' installations, the piezo units will each attach with a small square of 3M VHB self adhesive foam tape. You can still take the pickup off without issues if you use the VHB tape, it's just that the tape sticks on quite strongly.

Design Checklist:

Make it sound really good - It's your bass, only louder.

Make it simple to install - Installation takes perhaps a minute. It takes longer to read the instructions than to install the pickup.

Design it so that aside from sticking a little bit of velcro to the back of the tailpiece, there would be no changes required to the bass.

Make it easy to take the pickup off if you didn't need it - We did that. It takes about 15 seconds to remove the entire pickup system.

Make it work well for all styles of playing including bowing. - Well, we certainly did that.
